Ecology, identification, systematics, culture, and care of aquatic plants and animals, and adaptations to freshwater environments. Aquatic life is studied in lakes, ponds, bogs, marshes, and streams and in the laboratory. The course assesses human impacts on aquatic species and ecosystems, presents procedures for the stewardship of aquatic habitats, and introduces aquatic restoration ecology. Laboratory graded and credited with the course. Prerequisite: BIOL 121/BIOL 122 and BIOL 123/BIOL 124 with a minimum grade of “C”. Course offered at Au Sable Institute. Travel to site required.
