Foundational Courses
Majors will be tested for speaking proficiency in SPAN 301 . Students who do not rate at the Advanced level have the opportunity to take SPAN 390 to develop greater proficiency, or they can develop proficiency on their own (mission trips, study abroad, volunteerism in a Spanish-speaking community agency, etc. By SPAN 499 (usually taken during the last year), Advanced speaking proficiency is recommended.
The Montevideo Semester Immersion Program offers intermediate and an advanced track.
Study Abroad Expectations (can be in hours above or university requirements)
A student can earn between six and fifteen credit hours at our study abroad site in Uruguay. The regular Montevideo program offers beginning and intermediate courses, as well as advanced courses through Universidad Católica or Universidad de Montevideo.
